Each year from March onwards at Holy Cross our “Playground Leaders” take children doing lunch time for a variety of activities to encourage children to be active during lunch time. During the rainy days of the winter students are actively encouraged to take part in active or busy movement breaks. In our school we love the Operation Transformation 10 @ 10 breaks.
Each year our school offers a variety of after school activities for our students from Junior Infants to Sixth Class. Activities include – walking club, football, spikeball, basketball, Irish Dancing, taekwondo, zumba, gymnastics and Playball. These clubs take place throughout the school year.
Active takes places every year at the last week of May. Students take part in different activities each day of this week. One of the highlights of Active week is our Sport’s Day on Friday of the week. Each year we have a range of activities to give children a taste of the many ways they can be active around Killarney. The main focus of the week is participation and inclusion of all and also to have fun!!!! Check out our Active Schools Week videos from previous years. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uQd2KPmfaC0
